Xander Cornelis
I completed a Master’s in Experimental and Theoretical Psychology, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Neuropsychology at Ghent University. During this time, I was fortunate to gain hands-on experience in both research and clinical practice through internships at the GHEP Lab and the Department of Neurology at UZ Ghent.
My curiosity about how experimental and clinical approaches can inform and strengthen one another has become a central passion in my work, and ultimately led me to join the GHEP Lab once again in October 2025, this time as a PhD researcher!
During my PhD, I will contribute to the DEDICAT project, which aims to better understand and predict depressive episodes in vulnerable populations. My research focuses on how the body and mind recover from stress overnight, by examining physiological indicators, speech patterns, and the role of sleep quality. Ultimately, this work aims to improve early detection and prevention of depressive relapse.
