Sybren Van Hoornweder
I am a rehabilitation scientist by training (BSc & MSc, KU Leuven, 2015–2020), and completed my PhD at REVAL (UHasselt, FWO-funded, 2025), focusing on motor control, aging, and personalized brain stimulation. I have particular experience in electrophysiology, non-invasive brain stimulation, and electric field modelling.
Fascinated by the use of noninvasive brain stimulation in the fields of psychiatry and psychology, I joined GHEPLAB at the start of 2026. At GHEPLAB, I aim to apply the previously described methods to investigate the role of neural oscillations in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder, as well as how interindividual variability in brain anatomy influences the efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation interventions. Currently, work therefore primarily involves TMS, tES, EEG, and current flow modelling.
